Artist Statement

The artistic practice is a metaphorical gateway to express how, as an individual - we think, feel and behave about certain things, hence finding ourselves in an alternate world. That is the past/present knowledge, experiences and surroundings that nurture us and reflect the state of our mind and behaviour and how we perceive our environment. It is stored in our subconscious and takes its forms with the actions we perform and some attributes that gradually become part of our nature.

There is mainly a subjective lens present in the artworks, allowing people to relate it with themselves according to their experiences, understanding and opinions. Intuitiveness also plays a pivotal role in unleashing and reflecting the state in the artist’s mind. In some of the works, there is a surrealistic approach seen. Conversely, an objective idea is indulged in some of the artworks - reflecting upon the collective conscious/ conscience and experiences depicting the concern of constant and imbricating thoughts and life experiences. All of these combined: leads to creating spaces revolving around the idea of having an imaginatively enticing safe space to reside in. Consequently, it is nurturing the aloof, alienated, ambivalent, wavering and nostalgic feelings, along with the desire to go to places that are beyond our perception and physical reach. Thus, the artist creates inspired outer, transcendental and intangible spaces which are: whimsical, fanciful and uncanny. The endeavour of delineating the imbricated thoughts, feelings, behaviour and experiences that mirrors a narration in my practice; is achieved by using mixed media in the artworks such as printing techniques, paintings, sculptures, digital medium, installations, light art, embroidery and knitting. My practice brings together the effects of the dislocation of homes as a starting point that has been instilled in my subconscious and coming out as transformative emotions resonating with other experiences as an initiative. The spaces created do not define the memories, nostalgia or dislocation as traumatizing experiences. But show a positive journey by creating the environment as a fascinating fantastic experience to take a long, allowing the audience to associate with the perceptive spatial environments.
